L-3 Electronic Systems and Elbit Systems Land and C4I Sign Agreement to Base Manufacturing and In-Service Support Programs in Nova Scotia

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, December 7, 2011 – L-3 Electronic Systems (L-3 ES) and Elbit Systems Land and C4I (ESL Land) are pleased to announce their plan to introduce new jobs and significant investments in Nova Scotia. Working together as Canterra Solutions, the partnership between L-3 ES and ESL Land has plans to base manufacturing and In-Service Support programs in Nova Scotia as part of the team’s bid for the Canadian Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) program and the Integrated Soldier System Program (ISSP). The recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between L-3 ES and ESL Land solidifies the partnership’s long-term investment in the province. The companies will utilize L-3 ES facilities and personnel in Nova Scotia to manufacture and support cutting-edge defence technologies for Canadian and foreign military programs.

“The partnership between L-3 ES and ESL Land will generate exciting opportunities for Nova Scotia’s highly skilled workforce,” said Premier Darrell Dexter. “This collaboration reinforces that our province is an ideal location for leading companies in the defence, security and aerospace sector to thrive and grow on the international stage.”

If successful in their pursuit of the Canadian programs, L-3 ES’ Nova Scotia facilities will be used for:

  • The customization of current defence technologies for use in the Canadian marketplace, including the transfer of technology and manufacturing of ESL Land’s Dual Remote Weapon Station and Dominator® soldier system
  • Manufacturing and In-Service Support services to Canadian and international projects, including long-term technical and repair and overhaul support services that require highly skilled engineers and technicians
  • Elbit Systems’ global supply chain, where L-3 ES will maximize Canadian content in Atlantic Canada

“With its legacy in developing and supporting Canada’s defence technologies, Nova Scotia is a natural fit for our projects,” commented Bezhalel Machlis, general manager of Elbit Systems Land and C4I.

Richard Ackerman, vice president of business development at L-3 Electronic Systems, added, “By establishing partnerships for the manufacture and In-Service Support of world-class products, such as those developed by Elbit Systems, L-3 ES is focused on its future in Nova Scotia.”
